Ash is an artist, designer, and researcher who incorporates strategies of performance, narrative, and speculation to frame problems, re-imagine systems and build worlds across multiple platforms. Ash has worked as a producer, director and writer for various media groups and publications and is an assistant professor of emerging media arts in the recently launched Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Previously at UCSD, Ash was the director for Art + Technology in the Culture, Art, and Technology program and a researcher and artist in residence for the inaugural Birch Fellowship at Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

This ZoomPod (Zoom + Podcast) series of recorded conversations features professionals from different disciplines and walks of life to discuss their careers, definitions of and perspectives on speculative design, and reflect on the future of their individual creative realms. Eric is an artist, curator, and educator living in Chicago. Working across various mediums, Fleischauer utilizes conceptually-driven production strategies to be read as an aestheticized form of media theory and criticism examining the nuance of technology’s pervasive influences. His work has been exhibited internationally at venues including The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Interstate Projects (NYC), Microscope Gallery (NYC), Hallwalls (Buffalo NY), Corcoran Gallery of Art (DC), the Kunstmuseum Bonn (Germany), MMX (Berlin), The Brighton Photo Biennial (UK) – with solo exhibitions at Document, threewalls, and the Gene Siskel Film Center. Fleischauer received an MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a BS in Communications from SUNY Fredonia. Currently, he is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Film, Video, New Media, and Animation at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Anum self-described as an Interaction Designer, New Media Artist, Creative Technologist, and Educator. Anum “crafts mixed-reality experiences by blending physical and digital media centering queer, immigrant and non-western narratives” (Awan). Anum is based in the Bay Area and grew up in Lahore, Pakistan before moving to the United States in 2008. Anum is a member of MACROWAVES, an experience design collective, and was a keynote speaker for the Allied Media Conference in 2020. Anum received a BFA in Graphic Design from Massachusetts College of Art and Design, as well as a Masters in Interaction Design from California College of the Arts. Unyimeabasi “Uno” Udoh is an artist, graphic designer, and co-founder of Plates: An experimental journal of art and culture . Uno received a BA in Architecture from Columbia University in 2017 and an MFA in Visual Communication Design from the

Miranda Javid
Miranda is a professor, illustrator, curator, writer, and artist living and working in Los
Angeles. Miranda received a BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art in 2011 and
graduated from UCI in 2018 with an MFA Art degree. Miranda’s piece “Smoke’s Last
Thought” was an official selection for too many festivals to list here but the film has been
shown nationally and internationally including but not limited to Mexico City, Berlin,
Romania, and Greece. In Berin, Miranda received the Outstanding Achievement Award

Drawing inspiration from scientific research, Ariel metaphorizes unique biological phenomena to tell stories of female empowerment. An award-winning artist turned sci-fi and horror director, Ariel brings a distinct visual style to genre filmmaking. She holds a master’s degree in Fine Art with an emphasis in Critical Theory from UCI. Ariel’s film Daughters of Wolbachia (2018) was an official selection in the Women in Horror Film Festival and Labocine/Imagine Science. In honor of Indigenous Peoples Day 2020, meet artist Santiago X at this interactive artist’s talk.
SANTIAGO X, M.Arch, MFA is an Indigenous futurist and multidisciplinary artist specializing in land, architectural, and new media installation. He is an enrolled citizen of the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana (Koasati) and Indigenous Chamoru from the Island of Guam U.S.A (Hacha'Maori). Santiago X has exhibited and designed Internationally, including The World Expo in Shanghai, China, Venice Biennale in Venice, Italy and Ars Electronica in Linz, Austria. He is a 2019 3Arts Award Winner, and the first Native American contributor in the Chicago Architecture Biennial. In 2020, X was commissioned by the U.S. State Department to be the lead artist of The American Arts Incubator Brazil, where he traveled and conducted workshops culminating in a virtual reality exhibition, entitled PORTAL.
